You Ask - We Answer
DOES MARIEL ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Mariel's clients either do not use insurance and pay a session fee or use their out of network insurance.
NOTE: Most people who have out of network coverage do not even know they have it! Please see questions below for more on this-- to make beginning therapy easier, Mariel's office will happily check on your insurance benefits for you.
Mariel is an out of network provider, which means that if your insurance includes out of network mental health coverage, a percentage of her fee is covered once your out of network deductible has been met. She also works with HSA accounts.
IF I USE MY OUT OF NETWORK INSURANCE, DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE TO PAY THE FULL SESSION FEE UPFRONT AND WAIT FOR MY OUT OF NETWORK INSURANCE TO REIMBURSE ME?
Unlike many other NYC therapists, Mariel does two things to make her clients' lives easier: 1) her office files out of network claims for her clients, so that there is no complicated paperwork to be taken care of by you, and 2) Mariel does not ask her clients to pay for sessions up front in full (if their insurance is reimbursing) because she knows this can make therapy costly.

Instead, her clients pay a weekly co-insurance (each client's coinsurance is different depending on their insurance plan) and she waits for her clients' insurance carriers to reimburse her directly the rest of the session fee.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE OUT OF NETWORK COVERAGE? CAN MARIEL CHECK FOR ME?
Many people who do have out of network insurance have no idea they have it included in their plan, and this ends up drastically limiting who they can see as a therapist in New York City. As a result, Mariel's office is happy to check on your insurance benefits for you and explain them to you as best we can. Once you email us your insurance information, we usually get back to you with your benefit information within 6-12 hours on weekdays. It's that easy! If you would like us to check on your benefits, please click here and email us the following:
1) A picture of the front and back of your insurance card (can be taken on your mobile phone)
2) Your full name and date of birth; and
3) The home address associated with your insurance
HOW DO I FIND OUT MY BENEFITS IF I CALL MY INSURANCE PROVIDER MYSELF?
If you prefer to call yourself, please see the questions Mariel has provided below to ask your insurance provider. Please call the member services number on the back of your card and ask the following:

Do you have out of network coverage for mental health? And if so:
What is your out of network deducible?
How much of the out of network deducible has been met this year?
When does the out of network deducible renew?
What is the out of network coinsurance once your OON deductible has been met?
What is your out of pocket maximum per year?

Please write the answers to these questions down and then get in touch with Mariel's office so that we can help you interpret them. Click here to email her to let her know that you have your insurance information, you should hear back from her or a member of her office shortly.
